BetVictor option for Black Scorpion Eric McNamara is weighing up a crack at the BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham later this month for Munster National third Black Scorpion. The seven-year-old has shown improved form on all his three starts for McNamara, winning a decent pot at Listowel before going close in the big race at Limerick last time out. McNamara sent over Questions Answered to finish fifth of 18 to Al Ferof in the race in 2012. “Black Scorpion is in good form. He was just too keen the last day, we made too much use of him — and he ran himself into the ground,” McNamara told At The Races. “He jumped so well early on, and he jumped himself into the lead. We just made too much use of him, and he ran with the choke out. “The plan with him is he’s in the BetVictor at Cheltenham, and if he gets in he’ll go there — it depends on what weight he gets. Or maybe the Paddy Power at Christmas — we’re not in any rush with him. “The shorter trip wouldn’t bother him, but he does stay three miles.”
