The Prix du Cadran at Longchamp is the likely next port of call for Simenon following an improved showing in the Doncaster Cup.

The Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old ran a fine race in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot for the third year in succession when fourth behind Trip To Paris, but disappointed in the Goodwood Cup and the Lonsdale Cup at York on his next couple of appearances.

However, with the hood removed, Simenon showed more of his old sparkle when fifth on Town Moor and owner Nick Peacock is looking forward to seeing his charge tackle two and a half miles in Paris on Arc weekend.

He said: "He's getting on a bit now and is a little bit quirky, but the run at Doncaster was definitely an improvement on his two previous runs.

"All being well he'll be going to the Prix du Cadran next. I think the extra distance there can only help him.

"The only thing we wouldn't want is for the ground to get very soft at Longchamp, so we'll wait and see what happens with the weather."
