Claude strong at the finish in Wexford Claude showed good resolution, in first-time cheekpieces, to strike on jumping debut in the extended two-mile maiden hurdle at Wexford. The Caravaggio grey gelding was pushed along in the lead by JJ Slevin before two out and Lauro's Legend and Harry Sexton came hard at them in jumping the last. Claude really pinned his ears back, though, and stayed on well in the final 100 yards to go on and score by three lengths at 11/4 for Joseph O'Brien. Front Door Famous (6/1) got up for second by half a length from Lauro's Legend (33/1). Claude had previously been seen finishing fourth and fifth in bumpers at Killarney and Ballinrobe respectively. Slevin said: "It's great that he won. His runs were okay and it's nice to get a win out of him. "He is a very well-bred horse and it's great to have one for Mr Ryan. It's my first time in these colours and the team are here today so it's great. "I'd say his style of racing will help him stay a distance and Caravaggio is doing okay with his jumpers, he has Puturhandstogether as well." Additional reporting by Donal Murphy
