Well-backed Contrary To Law (13/8f) brought up the bets with a flying finish to the Racing Again September 21st Handicap over seven furlongs in Fairyhouse.

Front-running Shoot To Kill was involved in a battle with Rappell but the pair were mugged by Contrary To Law as Ben Coen conjured a late surge from the favourite to get up by a short head. His head was down as Rappell's came up on the line

Rappell was second at 6/1 and he was just a head in front of Shoot To Kill (8/1).

This gave Coen and Johnny Murtagh their Fairyhouse doubles after Floresta (6/1) took the honours in the featured Group 3 Stanerra Stakes.

Murtagh said: “He’s a horse that has been given us a bit of trouble at home. He’s keen and we were running him over six furlongs just to try and hold on to him.

“I thought the step up to seven would suit him today, in a race like this with plenty of pace.

“Ben said he relaxed well, was a bit green when he went for him first, but he said he finished the race out strongly. He hasn’t been doing that. We’re happy that he has today and he’s on the right track. Hopefully, he can keep improving now.

“He’s bred to probably stay another furlong, but I’d say seven is a good trip at the moment.”
