Former pony racer, Sean Corby, successful in the specially staged event for the youngsters up the Curragh last September, secured his first 'proper' racecourse winner when Boughtforasong scored in and then survived a steward's enquiry for the XL Handicap at Dundalk.

As Jimmy Lambe's Boughtforasong edged right and favourite Catwilldo came a little in the other direction, Chillie Billie (eventual third) proved to be the 'meat in the sandwich' close home. However it wasn't a surprise when the result was allowed to stand and half a length, a head and a head separated Boughtforasong, Catwilldo, Chillie Billie and Sweet Annathea at the line.

Corby (16) from Naas is attached to the Michael Halford yard and he stated: "She ran all over the place when she hit the front - she had other ideas."

The Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final furlong involving Catwilldo, ridden by G.J.Phillips, placed second, Boughtforasong, ridden by S. Corby, placed first and Chillie Billie (GB), ridden by R. Coakley, placed third. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, in the presence of Garrett Cotter, representing Mr. M. Halford, master of S. Corby.

Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the judge's placings, however they were of the opinion that G. J. Phillips was in breach of Rule 214,in that he failed to take reasonable steps to avoid causing interference and having considered his record, suspended him for two race days.

Mr. P. Caffrey, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.
