Ground conditions will dictate immediate plans for A Great View following his narrow success at last week’s Punchestown Festival.

Having been beaten a short-head at Leopardstown over Christmas and encountered traffic problems on his way to finishing sixth the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham, Denis Cullen’s stable star enjoyed a welcome change of luck in the three-mile handicap hurdle last Thursday.

The JP McManus-owned seven-year-old looked booked for minor honours when the Willie Mullins-trained Ainsi Va La Vie kicked clear, but showed a willing attitude after the final flight to get up and win a thrilling duel.

Cullen said: “We were delighted with him. Mark (Walsh, jockey) said he was happy enough when Paul Townend (on Ainsi Va La Vie) went on as it gave him a nice lead up the straight.

“He’s a horse who keeps on galloping and keeps a bit in the tank and it was great to see him land it on the line.

“We’ll see what the weather does in the next couple of weeks. He could get an entry in Killarney, but it will depend on the ground. If it dries up, we’ll probably give him a break.

“He won a novice chase for us last year and then lost his confidence jumping, but I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t mix hurdles and fences in the future.”
