Curragh's Futurity Stakes: Runner-by-runner Guide York may be front and centre on Saturday but there is some good racing from the Curragh too, with a double helping of Group 2 action scheduled at the Co Kildare circuit. That includes the Coolmore Stud Wootton Bassett Tom Cooper Irish European Breeders Fund Futurity Stakes over seven-furlongs, a contest Aidan O'Brien has won a record 17 times. The Ballydoyle chief has landed this event with stellar names such as Giant's Causeway (1999), Gleneagles (2014), Churchill (2016), Anthony Van Dyck (2018) and Henri Matisse (2024) and is going for five-in-a-row now. Here's our look at the five contenders for the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh (15:27), with €72,000 on offer to the winner just before York's Ebor gets underway. A Boy Named Susie (Donnacha O'Brien) This Starspangledbanner colt ran out an easy winner in a decent race at Killarney (1m, soft) on debut last month for Gavin Ryan and Donnacha O'Brien, beating a solid yardstick in ready fashion. Quickly rises in grade over this shorter trip but he could be quite smart. Chicago Pope (Johnny Murtagh) Another son of Starspangledbanner, Johnny Murtagh's youngster improved on second start to finish second in a 28-runner maiden over 6f at this venue recently, albeit he was eight-lengths behind easy front-running winner Mission Central for Ballydoyle. He'll need more here in all probability. Constitution River (Aidan O'Brien) Son of Wootton Bassett representing Ballydoyle/Coolmore. He was second in a Newmarket maiden over 7f on debut last month and that race has produced seven subsequent winners. Wayne Lordan was on board when this colt easily scored at Galway last month and they have strong claims on that evidence now jumping up in class. Geryon (Ger Lyons) Lope De Vega colt made a winning start for Ger Lyons in the familiar Anner Stud silks over this course and distance just a fortnight ago, defying an SP of 18/1 as he travelled smoothly and put the race to bed in good style. Entitled to come forward for that promising start. Go Just Do It (Joseph O'Brien) Son of Kingman was fourth on debut last month over track and trip in a hot maiden. The second and third have since bagged decent races at Glorious Goodwood and Galway. No forlorn hope under Dylan McMonagle, who rode a four-timer here last Saturday.
