Curragh Exhibition Opens Today The Curragh Racecourse will stage a fascinating exhibition to coincide with their final race days of 2016 which will celebrate the end of an important era in the history of the racecourse and the start of a very exciting time as the new Curragh development becomes a reality. The exhibition, sponsored by Dr Michael Smurfit, the Rogers Family and Friarstown Stud owned by Bahraini businessman Khalid Rahim, will focus on the historic past and the exciting future of the racecourse giving everyone a unique opportunity to view memorabilia and artefacts never seen in public before, while also showcasing the plans for the new Curragh. Items on display will include Lester Piggott’s riding boots when he won Irish Derby on Shergar, an original 19 century engraving of the famous horse Birdcatcher, the solid silver Irish Derby Trophy won by Ballymoss and many photographs and race cards depicting the Curragh racecourse over the last three centuries. Visiting the exhibition is free for all racegoers at the Curragh both today and tomorrow. The exhibition will remain open from 10am to 4pm until Friday 14th October to coincide with the Go Racing in Kildare Festival week. Admission during non-race days is €5 for adults, students are free.
