Dubawi to be given a break Dubawi Gold, runner-up in both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas, will be given a break after his slightly disappointing performance last week in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Richard Hannon's colt found only Frankel too strong at Newmarket, and he finished strongly to get within three quarters of a length of Roderic O'Connor in the Abu Dhabi-sponsored Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh. Connections tried to help their youngster get closer to Frankel than he did at Newmarket by riding him closer to the pace, but it did not pay off and he came home a well beaten sixth of nine runners. Tim Jones, racing manager to owner Andrew Tinkler, said: "He's fine and has come out of Ascot well, but we're going to give him a bit of time before his next run and freshen him up. "He's been running every three weeks since the end of March and while he's in good shape, he could probably do with a bit of a break. "We changed the tactics a bit at Ascot and tried to ride him a bit closer to Frankel, but it didn't work out. If we'd ridden him like we did in the Guineas he'd probably have finished a lot closer, but we had to give it a go. It's no good not trying these things. "We know he's a good horse so we'll freshen him up and make some plans. If we go back to riding him like we did at Newmarket, I think it's only a matter of time before he wins a big one."
