Henry De Bromhead has indicated that Envoi Allen may now wait for the big spring Festival meetings after gaining a tenth Grade 1 victory on his reappearance in the BetVictor Champion Chase last Saturday.

The Cheveley Park-owned gelding was taking the three-mile Down Royal event for a third time when keeping on strongly on the run-in to beat Affordale Fury by three and three-quarter lengths.

However, the Knockeen trainer immediately ruled out another trip to Kempton for the King George VI Chase, a race in which he has disappointed in the past.

“I must speak to his owners before confirming but we might aim for the spring next,” said de Bromhead.

“He came out of the race in mighty form, and I'm delighted with him. He looked good in winning and while maybe on ratings his win wasn't as high this year, he did it the best he had ever won it.”

Envoi Allen won the Ryanair Chase in 2023 and has been placed in the latest two renewals of that 2m4f event at the Cheltenham Festival.
