Ex-hunter chaser Lisleigh Lad wins Wexford’s feature Capable hunter chaser Lisleigh Lad (11/2) justified the decision to switch to handicap chasing today, as the Eleanor Broderick-trained gelding landed Wexford’s featured €25,000 Molloy Metals Recycling Handicap Chase, under Alan O’Sullivan. Previously successful in two point-to-points and two hunter chases, the Living The Dream Partnership-owned eight-year-old switched to handicapping last December and today scored from a rating of 117, when beating Nouvotic by 3.5 lengths. It was jockey O’Sullivan’s seventh success already this term and afterwards Broderick’s partner Matty Slattery reported “Eleanor is on holidays in Lanzarote and as she couldn’t view the race properly, thought something had happened the horse, but I rang to say ‘he’s after passing the winning post!’ “Alan rode him in Listowel and told me if we got him in his own company, that he’d be there or thereabouts. He came on from Listowel and today was his day. He’ll probably go to Galway now.” He added “it took a long time with him for the penny to drop but he always had plenty of ability. He got sick on us and had an infection but then got it again the following year, so it took time. He’s after growing up, he’s settled now and wants good ground.” Quotes from Gary Carson
