Seven pounds-claimer Harry Sexton combined with trainer Pat Fahy for a second Listed success today, as the pair landed Navan’s €45,000 Nas Na Riogh Novice Handicap Chase with Thethreeofus Syndicate’s maiden Prince Palace (7/2).

Previously unsuccessful in two point-to-points and 13 racecourse runs, Prince Palace today raced with the pace and on the run-in, held runner-up Shantreusse by three lengths.

Trainer Fahy, who combined to win the Porterstown Chase with Sexton in December, reported “Prince Palace had never won anything until now but he had been coming along nicely. He had a few lovely runs and it worked out today: we only get the odd oul’ big one!

"I didn't even look at this (rescheduled) race when it was on in Naas because it was coming too soon but we said we’d take our chance, given he seemed to be going very well two-and-a-half furlongs out here the last day.”

Regarding Sexton, an impressed Fahy added “it was a great ride and Harry doesn't care what sort of work it takes to get going, he will work. He can ride into the bargain and is willing to listen. He is getting very cool, not panicking and is keeping the whip down. He is getting better and better."

Today’s race owes its name to Naas town’s Irish translation as the ‘Place of Assembly of the Kings’ and was rerouted from Sunday’s rain-abandoned meeting.
