The Bord Na Mona Recycling Apprentice Handicap produced a very deserving winner as the line came in time for the 7/2 favourite She’s In The Game.

Runner-up in her previous three outings, the chestnut filly chased the leaders before being sent to the front by regular partner Neve Bennett a furlong and a half from home. She had a handy lead early in the final furlong and kept on well, despite edging left, to just hold the late effort of Thaleeeq by a short head.

It was a first win for the daughter of Starspangledbanner on her twelfth start, and also a breakthrough victory for Bennett.

Winning owner/trainer Bill Farrell said: “She was second in Cork and I thought seven (furlongs) was her deal but when you have a 0-65 horse you have limited choices and you go wherever you get in.

“She’s developed as the year has gone on and Neve comes in to ride her out every day and does a tremendous job with her, hence she gets to ride her in the races.

“I’m delighted for Neve and delighted for the filly because she’s a tough little yoke. She wants that ground and that trip.

“Neve is from Devon but is now based on the Curragh.”
