First win for Kyne as Whatyouwant springs 80/1 surprise Providing Galway trainer Gerry Kyne with a first track success, Whatyouwant sprang a massive 80/1 surprise as she foiled a gamble in the Sean Hughes Memorial Handicap Hurdle. Making the breakthrough last summer at Ballinrobe when in the care of Michael Griffin, the Ocovango seven-year-old had been ultimately disappointing since. With cheekpieces added for the first time this evening, the 77-rated victor was settled in mid-division by Gary Noonan, taking closer order on the outer from the third last flight. Jumping the last in a share of the lead, she soon drifted left when ridden, but ultimately outfought Rising Dust in the closing stages, with half-a-length between them at the line. On what was his first start for Emmet Mullins, the runner-up came in for strong market support and from early shows of 11/4, he was eventually returned the clear favourite at 4/5. The front pair were three-lengths clear of Slim Marvel (5/1), with a further three-length gap back to The Little Yank (22/1) in fourth. "I'm delighted. Fair play to the owner (Danny Grealish) for giving me a chance to have a go with her," Kyne enthused. "A big thank-you to Val O’Brien and Ian McCarthy who have helped me out along the way, and Paul O’Neill - we go there to school over fences. A big shout out to my own wife Anita as well. "It's nice to get one. We point-to-point a bit and we've had a few there. We also pre-trained a lot of horses that have gone on and won. "We're back at it for a bit of fun really. "We were a bit unsure with her today as she had little niggly problems over the last while. We were coming here hopeful, nothing more. "She felt well during the week and she looked well today. "Gary gave her a great spin. We decided to switch her off today and let her cruise into it, more so than putting pressure on her. "We'll always have one or two pointing and we'll have one or two for the Flat, after a while. Maybe we'll have a runner in Galway (Our Dagger, entered on Tuesday), I'm not sure ground-wise. "We'll celebrate today and then think about all the rest of it." STEWARDS REPORTS * S. Cleary-Farrell, rider of Quarry Tiepy, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was reluctant to jump off. * The Raceday Stewards interviewed L.A. McKenna, rider of Krishna Bellevue (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. L.A. McKenna stated that his mount had ran poorly on previous occasions and that he had lost momentum at the final hurdle. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that L.A. McKenna was in breach of R10.3(b)(out of contention) and having considered his clean record in this regard, they suspended him for two racedays. Additional reporting by Gary Carson
