Gold Threads his way through to make winning Curragh debut The Willie Mullins trained Thread Of Gold came from off the pace under Joey Sheridan to land the opening Coolmore Stud Little Big Bear Irish EBF Maiden at the Curragh. Held up in mid division, the 11/1 chance moved closer to track the leaders over two-furlongs from home. Sheridan then switched his mount out to deliver a challenge to the front two with over a furlong left to race. Resurgence, who had just headed long time leader Circle Of Life was briefly threatened by Nil Bua Gan Dua but Thread Of Gold quickened up smartly to sweep past that pair 150 yards from home. Staying on well close home, the Mullins trained gelding scored by two-lengths. Joey Sheridan said: “He was very professional from the minute I got up on him. He lobbed away down to the start and was like a handicapper in the stalls. “From the three to the two I was waiting for room following the fancied ones and I didn’t even have to produce my stick. “David Casey and Willie both said they think a bit of him but he might not be as streetwise as the others, but he was very professional. “He quickened up at the furlong pole and did it easily at the line. “He took a bit of pulling up afterwards which is always a good sign.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
