Guinness is good for Galway Galway Racecourse today announced that Guinness sponsorship at the venue will continue for the next five years and amount to over €1 million. The racecourse made the announcement today to coincide with the launch of this year's seven day Festival which begins on Monday 28th of July. The Guinness sponsorship includes the featured Guinness Galway Handicap Hurdle which remains the richest hurdle race to be run in Ireland and takes place on Ladies Day, Thursday 31st July. Guinness have been sponsoring races at Galway for almost 50 years with the relationship stemming way back to 1965. Racecourse Manager John Moloney said: “We are delighted to announce that Guinness have renewed their sponsorship with us for a further five years." “They have been with us since well before I started here and it’s magnificent that we can continue this long and fruitful relationship together,” he added. “We are very proud that every race throughout the week will be sponsored. Without the sponsorship, none of this would be possible. We are very grateful and look forward to a great week of racing at the Galway Festival,” Moloney said. Galway Racecourse also host the richest flat handicap to be run in Ireland on Tuesday, July 29th, The Topaz Mile. Tote Ireland sponsor The Galway Plate, a race steeped in Irish racing history which takes centre stage on Wednesday, July 30th. The Race week kicks off with The Galway Best Hotels Race Day on Monday, July 28th with the €70,000 Connacht Hotel Qualified Riders Handicap being the feature event on the card. Galway also have new sponsor on the Monday card when Colm Quinn BMW sponsor the concluding €10,000 I.N.H flat race. The Ladbrokes Day takes place on Saturday, August 2nd and the €45,000 Grade C Handicap Hurdle is the feature event of the Day. The Race Week concludes with the €100,000 European Breeders Fund ‘Ahonoora’ Premier Handicap to be run over a distance of seven furlongs on Sunday.
