Hennessy eyes Gold Cup with Rubi

Robbie Hennessy is full of hope Rubi Light could develop into a realistic Cheltenham Gold Cup contender following his excellent display in last week's Ryanair Chase.

The six-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign on home soil, landing his third win of the season in Gowran Park's Red Mills Chase.

He still crossed the Irish Sea with plenty to prove at the highest level, but he ran the race of his life to finish a close-up third behind Albertas Run and Kalahari King.

Hennessy is almost scared to think what his star turn could become given another summer to strengthen up and he can hardly wait for next season to come around.

"He's out in the field enjoying the sun on his back. He's on his holidays and he's a happy horse," said Hennessy.

"He's done enough this season and we couldn't ask any more of him. He's improved all the time and we thought we'd give him a nice break now and a summer's grass to strengthen up some more.

"If he can improve again, he really could be anything. He could be a superstar.

"I went to Cheltenham half worried about the ground being too quick, but Andrew (Lynch) assured us it was safe and he's handled it well.

"Andrew said if the ground had been soft, he probably would have won. I'd say three miles will be no problem at all to him next year the way he stayed on up the hill.

"He still needs to fill out a bit, but if he can improve that bit more, he could be a Gold Cup horse.

"We'll just see how he progresses, but we can go into the summer dreaming."
