Kings Hill was left clear to land the AOS Security Novice Handicap Steeplechase in Limerick for the Gilligans.

He was pressed by the gambled-on James The Brave two out, but the latter got it all wrong and unshipped Michael Kenneally from the saddle.

Kings Hill was left with a big lead and one fence to negotiate, which he did. He didn't have a lot left in the tank on the run-in but Jack Gilligan was able to guide him home by five and a-half lengths at 7/1 from Doyen Magic (9/1). Supreme Jet was another two and three-quarter lengths away in third at 6/1.

Paul Gilligan said: "He is a good horse, but didn't get the rub of the green for a while and he had surgery on a kissing spine.

"Since he started jumping fences, he is a different horse and he is entitled to win today's race with his run in the Supreme (Novices Hurdle of 2024).

"He will be better on better ground and his time of year is coming, so we'll place him as we go by.

"I would have loved him to go to Cheltenham, but one of his owners preferred to stay home with him and, with the slow year we've had, the horses are only coming back to form now. We're better off to get a winner here.

"Jack is at home with us three days a week, is now with Oliver McKiernan and other local trainers, but it is hard for these guys who are attached to small yards."
