House plans on hold after dirty scope

Plans for beaten Dante favourite Crowded House are now on hold after the Group One winner returned a dirty scope following his disappointing display at York yesterday afternoon.

Brian Meehan's charge had been winter favourite for the Derby following a scintillating display in the Racing Post Trophy last season but weakened in the final furlong of the Tote-sponsored Group 2 Derby trial to finish eighth behind Black Bear Island.

Meehan has reported that the colt scoped badly after the race, and said on his website, 'Plans for the Epsom Derby are on hold until we have received veterinary advice in the next 48 hours.'

His jockey Jamie Spencer will be relieved something has come to light after the lacklustre display and said on Racing UK, 'He just didn't fire - he didn't give me the same feel he does in a morning.'

'I wouldn't give up on him though, he's a big, rangy colt with loads of scope for improvement. We have to go back to the drawing board but write him off at your peril.'
