Inxile set for Sapphire Stakes

Adrian Nicholls is confident Inxile can continue his fantastic run of form in the Woodies D.I.Y. Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

The six-year-old ran with credit on a couple of occasions in Dubai early in the year and the sun on his back has clearly done him the world of good, as he has been running out of his skin since returning to the European sprinting scene.

The David Nicholls-trained gelding has won three times in Ireland and once in France since the middle of April and the trainer's son and stable jockey sees no reason why the run will not continue this weekend.

"He's having a great season and he's a horse who seems to love travelling," said Nicholls jnr.

"He's won four of his last five races and everyone keeps saying they've been weak races, but people can take their chance against him if they want.

"He's been doing everything well and he'll be the one to beat on Sunday.

"He owes us nothing so he may as well take his chance. He was only a short-head behind Prohibit in a race at Chantilly a couple of starts back and I should have won that day.

"Chantilly wouldn't really be his track and he just idled with me.

"Prohibit has come out and won a King's Stand, so his form isn't that bad is it?

"I'll probably meet Prohibit again in the Nunthorpe hopefully and I wouldn't swap him for anything else in Sunday's race.

"The ground doesn't make any difference to him and he's as tough as teak, so I'm really looking forward to riding him."

Inxile faces five rivals in the Group Three contest, with Tim Easterby's Hamish McGonagall and Move In Time from the Bryan Smart stable joining him on the trip from Britain.
