Irish 33-1 Shot Proves Promising Ahead Of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe By Connor WhitleyLos Angeles’ fourth place finish in the Prix Foy at Longchamp offers plenty of encouragement for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. That is the view of Emma Nagle, speaking on irishracing.com’s Irish Angle show after trials day took place at the weekend. The ante-post market has sparked into life as a result with Aventure and Minnie Hauk the joint-favourites. Aventure won the Qatar Prix Vermeille on Sunday with Whirl finishing last, while Minnie Hauk claimed the Yorkshire Oaks last month. Other contenders include Kalpana, who was beaten by Giavellotto in the September Stakes at Kempton at the weekend, and Byzantine Dream and Sosie who were 1-2 in Prix Foy. But Los Angeles, who is priced as big as 40/1 with some bookmakers at the time of writing, caught the eye of the Irish Angle panel. Time To Rule Out Whirl “I was disappointed by Whirl in particular,” Emma Nagle explained. “She was one that I was looking forward to watching and I’d say you just have to put a line through it, she just didn't seem to run her race at all for whatever reason. It definitely wasn't her running. “It's a short enough bounce back for the Arc now and it's hard to really fancy her off the back of that. “I thought Los Angeles' reappearance had a bit more promise than the bare result might show. He kicked a few lengths clear. He showed a good bit of pace and probably just blew up after a bit of time off. “I definitely wouldn't be ruling him out of a good autumn campaign, I thought he showed plenty on his reappearance. “The Japanese challenge for the Arc looks fairly strong now. Their winner Byzantine Dream, with Oisin Murphy aboard winning the Prix Foy. I think he's gone into second or third favorite for the Arc now as well.” Los Angeles An Each-Way Shout “I was just looking at the Arc betting,” Emma Nagle added. “Los Angeles is about 33-1 and bigger in places for the Arc after his run at the weekend. I thought it was a run with plenty of promise. “He was obviously third in the race last year when they made plenty of use of him. “I wouldn't be surprised to see him running a big race there for Ballydoyle. “I imagine that's where he'll be heading next and when he's that big of a price I wouldn't mind taking a small bet on him each way for the Arc down the line.” Minnie Hauk A Real Contender Irish Angle panelist and racing journalist Johnny Ward highlighted Minnie Hauk as the contender he was “very sweet on” for the Arc. “The Arc picture is kind of interesting now,” Johnny Ward explained on the Irish Angle. “Kalpana was probably too short in the betting in a way on Saturday taking on a good horse, but she was quite disappointing at the same time. “I don't know what to make of her now. We have the issue of Whirl and Minnie Hauk and where they're going to go. “Bedtime Story is one of the forgotten-about fillies. She ran a very good race. It was hard to know at the start of the year what her sort of trip was going to be but she ran an intriguing race. “I don't know what happened with Whirl, that was one of her first real proper disappointing runs. “The Arc picture looks a little bit smudged. I'd still be very sweet on Minnie Hauk. It was certainly an interesting weekend. “Christophe Soumillon is now going to pick up all these big rides. It was a good precursor for him. But it was a disappointing day for Ballydoyle, all told.” Watch The Irish Angle Or Listen On Spotify
