Jancis to try again at highest level after Falmouth fifth Willie McCreery is going to 'spell' his Group 2 winner Jancis after her unplaced run in last week's Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. The daughter of Tamayuz, bred and owned by Arturo Cousino, who is from a family steeped in thoroughbred racing and bloodstock in Chile, was a Group 3 winner at three and started this season with a bang when winning Newmarket's Group 2 Dahlia Stakes over nine furlongs in early May. Sean Levey was on board for the first time then, and has maintained the partnership since.  The five-year-old was a very creditable second to Blue Bolt in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, before tackling Group 1 company for a third time on the July course. As talented as she is, Jancis has yet to place at the highest level and weakened to finish fifth to her Ascot conqueror. “It was probably the wrong way to ride her, she was probably doing a bit much the whole way through the race," explained her trainer.  “A furlong down, there were five of them there, and then at the winning post they are strung out like a maiden hurdle. “They went some lick, and the only one that kept going that speed was Blue Bolt. I think it was a real strong Group 1. “We’ve learned a bit more about her. It was probably my fault, I should have told him to just ride for a place and that might have happened. “When you are going to win, it just cost us, probably. “We’ll give her a little mini-break and there is a race in France in the middle of August, the Prix Romanet (Group 1 over 1m2f) , and then back to Leopardstown for the Matron. That’s the plan.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson Watch our new show The Jockey Angle in full Race replays are FREE to watch from all Irish tracks and a selection of premier British tracks sponsored by William Hill.
