The easing ground looks set to tempt the better types back into the jumping arena and some smart mares start off over fences at Clonmel on Thursday.

Chief among them is Jennies Jewel, who tackles the larger obstacles for the first time in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Mares) Beginners Chase.

The daughter of Flemensfirth proved a star for trainer Jarlath Fahey last season and ended the campaign by chasing home Annie Power in Grade One company at Punchestown.

She has already had a spin on the Flat and an outing over hurdles this season and connections are now keen to test the waters in the chasing sphere.

"She's in good form and I'm delighted to see the rain come for her," said Fahey.

"She has been schooling nicely and jumps well so we're looking forward to her first run over fences."

How the mare performs on her chasing debut is set to determine what route connections take this season.

Fahey said: "We'll see how she takes to it. If she likes if there is the possibility she'll have another couple of runs over fences, if not she won't, but she seems to jumps well at home anyway."

Jennies Jewel faces a couple of smart rivals, including the Willie Mullins-trained Urticaire.

The French-bred proved a solid sort last year and her seasonal high came in the Grade One mares' event at Fairyhouse when she filled third place in a clean sweep for the yard.

Another interesting competitor is Our Katie, who had a good campaign last season for Cork handler Garry Ahern.

She ran a fine race on her final start when third in a competitive handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse and the fact she has jumping experience from point-to-points looks a major asset.

The preceding Wilderness Chase has only attracted four runners but nonetheless looks an intriguing event.

Fever Pitch held his form well through the summer and may prove the one to beat with fitness on his side.

Kadinski, an impressive winner of his beginners' chase at the venue back in March, bids to give weight to all his rivals.

Too Scoops looks best treated at the weights in the two-and-a-half mile contest but lost his way over timber in the spring and would need to return in top shape.

Memories Of Milan bids for a hat-trick in the www.grahamnorris.com Memorial Handicap Hurdle. John Queally's charge stormed home to get up late at Listowel last month and bids to defy a 6lb rise for that victory.
