Keane completes opening races Naas double Six-times champion Colin Keane pegged two back on title-leader Dylan Browne McMonagle with a Naas double for trainer Michael O’Callaghan today, completing the feat on Roaring Fire (7/4f) in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden. Successful on O’Callaghan’s Luna Mia in the opener, the pair combined to score with well-supported Roaring Fire (11/4 — 7/4f) which finished well to score comfortably from Savile Row . This second success moved Keane to 71 wins this season, six behind currently-suspended Browne McMonagle, who returns to action next Monday. Regarding his £60,000-purchase Roaring Fire, trainer O’Callaghan - who had supplied Brown McMonagle with a course double on August 24, reported “he’s a horse that came from the breeze ups, but didn’t breeze well. Mick Fitzpatrick was selling and told me he had sore shins, but said he was a nice horse so I took him at his word. “He’s been a bit of a sleeper at home. We brought him away for a barrier trial (third at Leopardstown last month) and he trialled well enough. Colin rode him then and thought he stepped forward a lot from his trial. The penny just dropped in the last furlong today. “He handles that ground, so he’ll probably run again this year.” Quotes from Alan Magee
