King George hero Banbridge wins on the Flat at Gowran King George VI Chase-winner Banbridge (4/1) was the star turn at Gowran today, merrily landing the concluding Racing Again September 19th Maiden on his first start on the Flat at the age of ten. Winner of both the Punchestown Champion Chase and King George in 2024, Banbridge had previously unseated rider in April’s Grand National, and was using today’s reappearance as a prep run for the American Grand National at Far Hills on October 17. Racing behind the leaders, strong-travelling Bandridge swept aside his rivals over a furlong out and was an eased-down winner under jockey Joey Sheridan, beating Ballybawn Belter by two lengths. Regarding the Ronnie Bartlett-owned gelding, winning trainer Joseph O'Brien, earlier successful with the Sheridan-partnered Starborn Legend, said “We didn't expect him to win, but thought it'd be a nice place for him to get the season off to a start. He really went through the race with great enthusiasm and he won snug. “We are having a think about an American option for him and he also has some options at home.
