King returns with stylish win Ebony King quickened up impressively to land the concluding Failte Abhaile Race at Listowel this afternoon. The Andy Slattery-trained gelding travelled well, under Adam Ryan, to challenge turning for home in the amateur contest over a mile-and-six. He was asked to hit the front over a furlong from home and soon settled matters, galloping on strongly for a four length win over 28/1 shot Anyway. The 11/2 winner was making his first start since finishing last of six in a hot conditions race at Killarney in May. He had been runner-up in Grade 2 company over hurdles prior to that. "I’m happy out with that. He got injured in Killarney in a six-runner race where the first four either won or were placed in Royal Ascot on their next runs,” said Slattery. “We got him back and he was ready but we thought he did might just need the run. He’s a nice horse. "This is a great tonic for Tom Marr, his wife and her sister Mairead, as Mairead is the grandmother of Kaitlyn (Ryan), who got the fall recently so that’s a bit of a help."
