Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy continued their excellent recent run of form when Kurasso Blue landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase at Punchestown.

Prominent throughout under the Dingle jockey, the Robcour owned gelding headed leader Port Joulain with four fences to jump.

Asserting from three out, the 7/2 chance was briefly challenged by Ballygunner Castle entering the home straight but kept on strongly from the penultimate fence to score by one-and-a-half lengths.

Kennedy said: “He jumped. His slowest jumps were probably the third and fourth last but it was a good round of jumping.

“He’ll probably be better with a lead as well, it was nice.

“He was having a bit of a look. He’s probably not the quickest horse in the world, but stays well so I was keen to press on on him.

“He was obviously up in trip today, from the last day. He probably just got beat for a bit of toe the last day and that was ideal there today.

“He was a big frame of a horse and is probably only filling into himself now. Hopefully he can improve away.

“He handles that ground, but he handles a bit of nice ground as well. For a big horse he’s light on his feet. He’s fairly versatile and probably just doesn’t want it extremely heavy.

“With the week we’ve had we thought it would be fairly extreme conditions, but it’s not too bad.”
