Joseph O'Brien unleashed a useful-looking sort in Le Labo to win the bumper at Thurles.

He got to grips with things entering the straight and soon strode into contention down the outer.

John Gleeson pushed him to the front racing to the final furlong and he showed plenty in the closing stages to beat Riskaway by a length and a-half at 4/1. The 9/2 runner-up was almost five lengths clear of the 7/2 favourite Frankie John

Gleeson said: "It was a lovely performance and he is a gorgeous-looking son of Mount Nelson. He is a fine, big horse who we bred ourselves and we gave him plenty of time. I've been looking at him since he was a foal, so it's great he has paid me back!

"Dad came across his dam (Count On Me, a half-sister to former Champion Hurdle winner Binocular) a couple of years ago, so we were lucky to get her and she has already bred Presentandcounting, who has won plenty races in England.

"We always liked this horse, Joseph has done a great job with him and the patience has paid off. If he can build on that, he is one to look forward to."
