Billy Lee delivered well-named Amavasya (11/1) with a perfectly-timed challenge to take the first division of Fairyhouse's 0-60 handicap over a mile and a-quarter.

The Sea The Moon filly had been unplaced on all 11 previous starts and ran here off a mark of 54.

She made steady headway from rear of mid-division in the straight and was switched off the inner a furlong out before collaring tail-swishing front-runner Coul Dore in the final 50 yards for a neck success.

Winning trainer Michael Grassick said "It’s well deserved. She’s always shown us a little bit at home, but she’d taken time to develop. There’s not much of her and she’s a delicate filly.

“In fairness to William Keeling, he’s been very patient with her. If anyone else had her, they’d be telling you to move her on.

“She’s always been running well without getting close to winning, finishing fifth or sixth. That’s why we felt she’d win somewhere for us, it was just a matter of when."

Amavasya is the Sanskrit term for the lunar phase of a new moon in the Hindu calendar.
