Lerena unplaced on start of British spell South African jockey Gavin Lerena finished out of the places as he kicked off his British spell at Bath on Wednesday evening. Lerena, who rode a double at the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot last summer, has come over principally to ride horses for Chelsea Thoroughbreds and is based with Charlie Hills. He teamed up with the Hills-trained Mudajaj to finish sixth in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes and admits he is adjusting to a different pace of life in Britain. "It's quite a unique (track). That was interesting and I enjoyed riding on it," Lerena told At The Races. "In South Africa I could ride out 20 horses a morning in the space of three and a half hours and then today it took me three hours to work three horses - there's a big difference. "I'm loving it. Obviously the weather could be a lot better though!" Lerena has one ride booked at Newmarket on Thursday evening and will then have five mounts at the same venue on Friday.
