Returned at the prohibitive odds of 1/5, Kalypso'chance was surprisingly overturned by Jony R in the first divide of the Tayto Group Maiden Hurdle.

While the market leader attempted to make all under Jack Kennedy, he jumped left at times and blundered badly at the second last after being joined by the strong travelling Stuart Crawford-trained victor.

Ridden by JJ Slevin and having raced in second throughout, the 16/1 chance soon surged clear and ultimately eased to a nine-length win.

The aforementioned Kalypso'chance just held on for second, with Maxwell Smart (80/1) a neck behind in third.

"He was in good form coming here. We had kind of hoped maybe to go to Ayr today and it just suited the owner (Eithne Hamilton) better to come here as it is her local track. She wasn't going to be able to get to Ayr," Crawford revealed.

"I thought we were forsaking a winning chance in Ayr to maybe come for a place chance here. To be fair to that horse, there is nothing flukey about it on the day.

"He hasn't been overly harshly-raced and he has really strengthened up over the summer.

"You definitely would (see him over further) and he did nothing wrong. He was a wee bit keen there, a wee bit fresh.

"There's a lot of horses don't do what that horse has done today.

"I'll probably end up going across the water for a novice under a penalty rather than trying to step up in grade over here. You are going to have to go into a Listed straight away (in Ireland)."
