Ludlow on but Taunton waterlogged Racing in Britain continues to be affected by the wet weather, and tomorrow's scheduled meeting at Taunton is the latest to be abandoned. The Somerset venue sustained 23mm of rain overnight, with another 12mm forecast this morning. Taunton's officials reported "significant waterlogged areas" following an early-morning inspection. However there is better news at Ludlow where today's meeting goes ahead. There was just 5mm of rain overnight and, while the going is heavy, plans to hold an early morning inspection were scrapped. Officials at Newbury are upbeat about the prospects for their big meeting this Saturday, after the Berkshire course coped well with nearly 21mm of rain last night. The ground at Newbury is now officially heavy (soft in places). More rain is forecast but Newbury tweeted this morning: "Ground now heavy, soft in places, after 20.9mm overnight. Track taken rain incredibly well. Showers forecast today." Newbury's high-class card is due to feature the Betfair Hurdle, the Game Spirit Chase and the Denman Chase.
