Maarek bids to shine in Sapphire Evanna McCutcheon's Maarek, who skipped Royal Ascot because of fast ground, is the big attraction among 14 entries for the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. Winner of the Duke of York Stakes this season and the Prix de l'Abbaye last year, he was beaten by subsequent Diamond Jubilee winner Slade Power when last seen. There are six possible challengers from Britain, including David Barron's Pearl Secret. Olly Stevens has two entries in the three-year-olds Green Door and Extortionist, while Paul Midgely has entered Monsieur Joe. Gary Moore's Dutch Masterpiece and the Charlie Hills-trained Lucky Beggar may also run. Aidan O'Brien has entered Darwin, Fountain Of Youth, Guerre and Masai.
