Maguire & Swan duke it out in the last

After the Dawn Run colours had been carried to success in the previous contest at Killarney, there were more echoes of the past in the concluding HR Buddy (Q.R.) Race over two miles, one furlong which produced a terrific final-furlong tussle between jockeys Maguire and Swan with just a head between their mounts passing the post.

Adrian Maguire and Charlie Swan would have been hard-pressed to find fault with their offsprings' endeavours in this contest, as Harry Swan gave Murat (6/4) a fine front-running steer only for Finny Maguire to conjure a late burst from 11/10 favourite Ragmans Corner (third a furlong out) and wrest the spoils on the nod.

"He is a great little horse and has been very good to us," said winning trainer Gerry Keane.

"He had a cracking run in the Galway Hurdle (fourth) when he was stopped in his run and was unlucky not to finish second, which was the difference of 50 grand!

"We stuck him in the Cesarewitch and that's probably being ambitious, but he had to win to get in, so we'll see. If he gets into that, he'll probably run, although hurdling is his forte."

Regarding son Colin's recent York successes, he added "He is having a great week and it is unbelievable the way his (Juddmonte Stud) job has gone.

"Two of those big wins could have gone either way in photo-finishes, so that's the difference between being a hero or villain, but hopefully he can keep it going."
