Maguire sees bright future for Warbucks

Adrian Maguire has high hopes Mr Warbucks will make the grade after the lightly-raced gelding made a winning debut over fences at Thurles.

The six-year-old could be bound for Punchestown next month following his defeat of the favourite Whatuthink in a beginners chase over two and a quarter miles on Thursday.

"He's a lovely horse. That was only his sixth run so he's taken all the time to fill his frame - he's quite a big horse," the County Cork trainer told At The Races.

"He always promised to be a good horse and he's now beginning to show that.

"With a bit of luck, I'd hope to be picking up a Graded race - three miles wouldn't be a problem for him.

"It's exciting times for him. Three's a Grade Three in a fortnight at Punchestown and it's more than likely we'll see him then."
