McConnell hoping for more Bellewstown success Trainer John McConnell is preparing a strong team for Bellewstown as he looks to add to his local track success. Flat Runners and Hopes for Rain John McConnell is hoping for more success at his local track in Bellewstown over the next couple of days. The Stamullen-based handler has three runners on today’s Flat card while he is set to saddle seven at tomorrow’s jumps meeting. "We've a nice squad on the jumps day, we've only a few tomorrow but they have chances," said McConnell. "Hopefully, we get rain overnight. I'd be very sweet on Spanish Princess if the rain keeps it safe. If it gets quick, she won't run. There is a nice bunch of jumpers on Wednesday." Montecam Among Jumpers to Watch "I have Montecam in the 25 grand handicap hurdle. He ran at three miles at the last Bellewstown meeting—he ran a good race and ran out of steam (in fifth). He ran a bit free and a bit fresh, but hopefully we get him a bit more settled on Wednesday. We try to (do well at Bellewstown)—we try to have one that's got a chance, so we are definitely going there with chances." (Additional reporting by Michael Graham)
