Bobby McGee made it a hat-trick this season when claiming the opening Royal Ascot Trials At Naas Rated Race for Noel Meade, at the Kildare venue, this afternoon.

The Mayson gelding was a course and distance winner in handicap company late last month and went to post a well-backed 3/1 shot today. Victory Tip hit the front passing the two pole in the mile event but was tracked through by Bobby McGee and Colin Keane drove his mount into the lead inside the final furlong for a length-and-a-quarter success.

"He was good today, he was very good, and what can you say about the fella that was riding him? He was good too!” said Meade.

“I was impressed with him myself today the way that he done that. He won snug enough.

“I suppose we might enter him in the Britannia at Ascot. We'll see, he might go there. He probably mightn't want rock hard ground, I'd say.

“A little ease might suit him better. The shower earlier didn't do him any harm. I couldn't be more pleased."
