Meditate was very strong at the business end in winning on debut in the five furlong juvenile fillies' maiden at the Curragh. Drunk In Love the 15/8 favourite, ran a remarkable race in second. She bucked leaving the stalls and gave her rivals several lengths of a start before she consented to race after half a furlong.
The Bungle Inthejungle filly showed the engine she undoubtedly has as she travelled through to lead in the final quarter of a mile, however, she was picked off by Meditate approaching the final furlong and had to settle for second albeit two and a half lengths clear of the third, Camilla Gherardini (11/1).
Meditate (9/4) was always to the fore before coming under pressure once headed by Drunk In Love. She found plenty under Ryan Moore, though, to forge on by three and a quarter lengths.
Drunk In Love had behaved in a similar fashion on debut at Dundalk before coming home fourth.
"We're delighted with her. She did everything right,” said Aidan O'Brien.
“We thought she would have no problem starting at five but Ryan said she got to the line very well.
“She was straightforward and has a lovely mind. It was first time and she came straight up there.”
When asked if she could be an Ascot horse he added: “I think she could be, that's what you'd imagine. She has all that quality. She'll go for the fillies' group race at Naas next.”
