Review NAAS 5TH JUN

Brazilian Bride looked a top-class prospect when landing the Swordlestown Stud Sprint Stakes at Naas on Monday.

The Kevin Prendergast-trained filly quickened smartly inside the final furlong to land the Group 3 event in good style from Gee Kel.

Declan McDonogh tracked English raider Amber Valley in the early stages before improving to lead at the furlong pole and the filly asserted close home for a two-length success.

'I think she is pretty smart. She settled well today and bounced off the ground. Stepping up to seven should be no problem,' said Prendergast.

'There are no real plans yet although the Phoenix Stakes could be a possibility, then the Moyglare could be the job.'

Osterhase bounced back to form with a typical trail blazing performance in the Naas Sprint Stakes.

John Mulhern's gelding showed terrific speed to be clear at half-way and Fran Berry could afford to ease him close home to score by a length-and-a-half from Moon Unit.

'He's really come to himself. He worked really well during the week and always seems to come good in June,' said Berry.

Assistant trainer Stephen McCarthy said: 'He's in at Royal Ascot but the owners would like to go for the King Of Beers Stakes at the Curragh on Derby Day.'

There was drama shortly after the start of the Bill Whitehead Memorial Race with Qasbah stumbling and dislodging Derek McCormack and Shehira also unseating Mick Kinane.

McCormack was taken to hospital for x-rays following the spill while Kinane appeared to be unscathed.

An Tadh stayed out of trouble up front, powering to a three-length success for the in-form pair of Johnny Murtagh and Ger Lyons.

Fermion (3/1 to 9/4f) was well-backed on her handicap debut in the opening Fillies Handicap and duly obliged when coming to lead inside the final furlong and beat Aunty Euro by a length.

Absolutelyfabulous (9/4f) was also making her handicap bow in the Event & Venue Hire at Naas Racecourse Handicap and proved a comfortable three-parts-of-a-length winner over Teachers Choice.

Sable D'Olonne swooped wide and late to make a winning debut in the Fillies Maiden for Tommy Stack while Jim Bolger's Zacharova completed a quick hat-trick when landing the concluding ITBA Handicap.
