Review ROSCOMMON 16TH MAY

Tadhg O'Shea moved onto the nine winner mark for the season when recording a 39.5/1 double aboard Bush Maiden and Flashy Beau in front of over 5,000 racegoers.

Lady Singspiel (4/7-4/9f) was all the rage for the 1m2f fillies maiden but Bush Maiden showed the benefit of her debut at Navan earlier this month to score in fine style.

The 5yo, trained on the Curragh by Maryrose Hayes, led a furlong out and stretched clear in impressive fashion to beat Ask Carol by four lengths with the hot favourite weakening back into fourth.

'She's had a number of little problems including a shoulder injury and shin splints that have kept her off the track but that performance surprised me,' confessed Mrs Hayes.

The former dual champion apprentice followed up in division one of the mile and a half handicap where Flashy Beau (4/1-7/2f) gained a deserved win.

Ger Lyons' charge was up with the pace throughout, and found plenty under pressure for O'Shea to beat chief market rival Auburn Lodge by two lengths.

Punters were again in good form after division two as The Screamer took advantage of her lowly handicap mark (36 compared to 110 over hurdles) under Niall McCullagh.

The eight-year-old mare came through strongly in the straight, leading over a furlong out to beat Academy Brief by two and a half lengths.

'She won a bumper first time out at Listowel (in 2001) and goes well fresh. I'd imagine she'll mix it between hurdles and the Flat,' said Laura Hourigan, representing her father Michael.

Declan McDonogh partnered his tenth winner of the season when Menwaal (4/1 to 3/1) justified good support in the mile and a half maiden.

The Kevin Prendergast-trained colt challenged the always prominent favourite Virginia Woolf approaching the furlong pole, and soon got on top to score by a comfortable two lengths.

Rheindross notched up his third win over fences in the featured Frank Hannon Memorial Handicap Chase but could soon leave Arthur Moore as the familiar grey is heading for the Doncaster Sales next week.

Philip Carberry's mount was left in front after 9/4 favourite Prince Of Pleasure blundered three out, and drew clear before the last to beat Kings Orchard by three and a half lengths.

'He's entered at Doncaster and will probably go as it's hard enough to place him over here. I think Philip won this race for me before on Tacolino for the same owner (Chris Jones),' said Moore.

Persistence paid off as Runfar finally got off the mark on her 51st start in the two miles handicap chase, staying on well from the last under Denis O'Regan to beat Air Of Confusion by 3 1/2L.

Eoin McCarthy partnered his second winner as Seemore Street proved a very fortunate victor of the opportunity handicap hurdle.

In a race full of incident, Genger (who held a slight lead) and Missed Trip fell independently at the last to leave Seemore Street clear.

The Barry Connell owned and ridden Pedrobob took the bumper in convincing fashion, making most to beat Mardanash by two lengths.
