Review TIPPERARY 16TH SEP

Jump jockey Paul Carberry moved to within 14 winners of Championship Leader Ruby Walsh when recording a double at Tipperary today.

His first win came on board Frances Crowley's Riverboatman in another hair-raising juvenile hurdle. The winner struck the front on the approach to the second last, eventually staying on for a four length win over Grangehill Dancer.

Crowley later reported 'he'll improve from that run as his jumping was very deliberate. He may go for a winners' race at Listowel on Monday but the long-term objective has always been the Dennys Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown in December.'

Carberry's second win came on John Kiely's Leos Shuil in the William Fry Solicitors Novice Hurdle. From a well know national hunt pedigree, the daughter of Good Thyne was reported by Kiely to be 'very genuine' although the trainer has no immediate plans for the seven year old.

A small crowd witnessed the opening two year old maiden, a race won by John Oxx's newcomer Allexina. The daughter of Barathea battled well under a strong Michael Kinane drive to hold the late challenge of Full Victory by a short head.

According to Oxx's representative, Slim O'Neill, the winner 'was not expected to win but seemed to like the ground although she did idle a bit in front.'

Oxx and Kinane completed a newcomer's double in the next when their 7/1 shot Waldblume (paid 18/1 on Tote) defeated the more experienced Weld runner Set In Motion by a neck in a driving finish to the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden. O'Neill reported 'she is a real three year in the making and should stay a bit further.'

The John Gleeson trained Deerpark looked set to land the five furlong nursery but was headed 75 yards out by a fast finishing Dancing Duchess under Colm O'Donoghue. The Owen Weldon trained winner is owned by Meathman Fin Sheedy, who reported 'I previously owned a winning point to pointer but that is my first winner on the track.'

The 5f 1560 111 111 Live Irish Commentary Handicap resembled a cavalry charge with Eddie Lynam's Mr Flatley eventually beating off the challenge of his 17 rivals under Jamie Spencer.

Both Niall Madden and his son of the same name can do no wrong and won the concluding handicap hurdle with Teknash.
