Fragile nine-year-old Miners Bridge (4/1 - 13/8f) landed a gamble to win Killarney’s Brehon Hotel & Spa Handicap Chase today, scoring a second course success for his trainer Sam Curling, owners Ckc Syndicate and jockey Philip Enright.

Previously successful at today’s course in July 2024, Miners Bridge returned following a 398-day layoff at Cork 17 days ago and was now reverting to fences.

Jockey Enright raced with the pace throughout, with Miners Bridge eventually scoring readily by 1.75 lengths from Tippin And Tappin .

Curling commented “Miners Bridge had a grand run on his first run back from a layoff the last day and we had this race planned from a while, so I’m glad it came off. We fancied him well as he was working well and he’d have come on plenty from his recent run.

“He has always been a good horse but has had plenty of trouble and had finished second in a Tipperary chase last year, in a race which has worked out very well. If we get a clear run with him, he might win another one or two.”

Last season’s Leading Point-to-Point Handler added “I have a lot of confidence when I have Philip (Enright) riding for me, he keeps everything simple and is a massive part of our team.

“There are four in the syndicate: myself, Ross Keohane and jockey-valets Mike and Liam Cleary. In fairness to the other lads, they’ve been patient and there was no problem with me giving the horse more time.”
