Moore to have operation on Tuesday Ryan Moore will have to wait until Tuesday to have surgery on his broken thumb and his broken humerus. Different specialists are required to operate on the three-times English champion jockey, and that is the first day they are both available. Moore remains in St Richard's Hospital in Chichester after breaking his upper arm and thumb in a nasty fall at Glorious Goodwood on Saturday that could put him out for the rest of the season. He was brought down when riding the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Verdant in the Toyo Tires Summer Handicap. "Because of the severity of the injury, he's going to have a specialist to fix his thumb and a different specialist to do surgery on his shoulder," said his father, West Sussex trainer Gary Moore. "They can't get the two surgeons at the same time until Tuesday, so we're just going to have to sit tight until then. "They didn't want to have one surgeon do one job and then Ryan have to go through it all again with another one. They want to do the two together. "He has to have pins in his shoulder and pins in this thumb." The injuries are a big blow to the rider. He is not only retained by Stoute but has also become a leading choice for Aidan O'Brien in the absence of a stable jockey at Ballydoyle. Moore had also been involved in a fascinating tussle with reigning champion jockey Paul Hanagan and Silvestre de Sousa in this year's title race. The jockey's target is to be fit enough to bid for back-to-back victories on Workforce in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in October. "His main aim would be try to get back to the Arc, so hopefully he might be able to go that, but no-one seems to know at the moment," said Moore Snr.
