More To Come From Minnie Hauk After Irish Oaks Victory Minnie Hauk completed an Oaks double at the Curragh for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore as the tenacious filly showed her battling qualities to wear down the opposition. The Epsom winner was sent off as short as 2/11 but Moore had to get serious as old foe Wemightakedlongway laid down the gauntlet but Minnie Hauk, as has been her wont, did enough to land the spoils without truly revealing the depths of her talent. The Frankel filly also became the second shortest-priced winning favourite of an Irish Classic in the last 40 years after former Ballydoyle inmate Australia had carried the burden of 1/8 favouritism in the Irish Derby in 2014. Wemightakedlongway had beaten Minnie Hauk when the latter was debuting at Cork in a maiden last October but she has won all four starts since. She won her own maiden at Leopardstown soon after and has this season won the Cheshire Oaks, the Epsom Oaks and now this Curragh contest. Joseph O'Brien's eventual second, Wemightakedlongway pressed for home under Dylan McMonagle from around the two-furlong pole after pace-setting Ballydoyle runner Island Hopping had given way. The remainder of the field were treading water behind as Moore pulled Minnie Hauk out to challenge. The rider was pushing along briefly but his filly soon hit full bore and went clear to win by a length-and-a-quarter. It was the largest winning margin of her four victories thus far and, given the fact she doesn't do anything flash once the mission is completed, it remains difficult to gauge just how good Minnie Hauk can be. "We thought we'd be sitting second and Dylan got the second position, so Ryan had to make a decision whether to sit second on Dylan's inside or pull back out of it so he wouldn't be boxed in," said O'Brien. "Ryan made the right decision." The trainer was coy on future plans, with the Yorkshire Oaks next month a distinct possibility and the option of taking on the boys in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp now dismissed. "She could do either of those two things," O'Brien said. "If she was going down the Arc trial route, she'd have to have a couple of easy weeks and obviously if she was going to York then she wouldn't have those couple easy weeks. I'd imagine we'd have a fair idea in the next week. Looking at her, she probably would love York." Minnie Hauk trades generally around the 10/1 mark for the Arc in Paris later in the season and, winning rider Moore also remains fairly confident that she's saving something for herself in her races. "She's a good filly and she's going to go on to better things as well," Moore told RTE after the race. "We're learning about her and she'll be better than this."
