Mullins doubles up with Fou Willie Mullins doubled up at Kilbeggan tonight when Fou De Toi recorded his first win for the yard, in the Midland Veterinary Beginners Chase. The Motivator gelding had been second on his chase debut at Ballinrobe 11 days ago and went to post 2/1 favourite tonight in first time cheekpieces. Paul Townend produced his mount to lead over the second last in the two-and-a-half mile contest and he asserted before final fence to post a comprehensive eight-length success. Townend said:- “I think cheekpieces were the main addition to him, they helped him concentrate. “He was going as quick as he could early on but his jumping kept him in it. He’s always jumped really well. “He’s a horse that you could see going back up in trip. “The race panned out beautifully for him, that I was able to get a lead and he got confidence when one dropped away and he was galloping over the other horse upsides him. “Chasing is his game and it’s just nice to get a win with him.” When asked if he could improve for stepping up in trip he added:- “I hope he would but I couldn’t guarantee you. I thought this was by far his best run and he’s made nice work of it. Staying chasing is his game.” Mullins had also struck with Boo Radley earlier.
