Trainer Ciaran Murphy recorded a double on the evening, as Soldante stayed on best under Kevin Healy to win the Sweeney Oil Handicap Chase at Roscommon.

Prominent throughout, the 10/1 chance headed Chosen Shant after four out, pressing on entering the home straight.

Going clear after negotiating the third last, the Soldier Of Fortune gelding kept on well to beat Party President by five-lengths.

Murphy, who was registering his first double, said: “He has been consistent in his few runs.

“The ground was a factor for him and he got it today. It was a valuable 7lb off him there.

“Kevin started with us from pony camp and has worked his way up. He went to Simon Cavanagh and it’s lovely to be able to give him a winner.

“I’m very pleased with the horse. He did it lovely, jumped beautifully. He’s been a good servant and I’m very happy to win over fences with him.

“He’s had some lovely runs. Eoin Walsh was riding but he’s out of action at the moment unfortunately, otherwise he would have been riding him.

“He’s learned plenty and he jumped professionally today, so I’m very pleased with him.”
