Naas hosts Kildare footballers

An action packed line-up is on the cards at Naas racecourse this coming Saturday, as Club Kildare combine GAA and horse racing to stage a spectacular fundraiser in support of the Kildare Senior Footballers 2012 campaign.

There will be a full programme of racing, rounded off on a high with a specially sponsored charity race for Amateur riders at 5.30pm. A field of 14 riders are all set to take part in Saturday’s charity race including former Kildare stars “Sos” Dowling and Eddie Mc Cormack. “Sos” Dowling said “We have been in training for the charity race for the last couple of weeks, with all our competitive streaks emerging. The build up to the day has been brilliant; we are all looking forward to the sport and fun we are all going to have on the day.”

A fantastic day out is planned with the Kildare team on hand to meet and greet supporters young and not so young, in what should a be a great party atmosphere with lots of entertainment including face painting, children’s Halloween fancy dress party and live band Sapphire playing throughout the day.

The Ben Dunne Gyms Poplar Square Steeplechase (Grade 3) is the feature event of Naas’s first National Hunt fixture of 2011-2012 season, giving Cheltenham winner Noble Prince an ideal opportunity to start off his season, opposition will come from Jigalo and Osirixamix. In the Copper Face Jacks Brown Lad Hurdle the O’Hare family are looking for an historic treble in this two and half mile contest, having won it in 2009 with Montana Slim and with Sweet Shock in 2010.

Tom Ryan, Manager of Naas Racecourse, said “We are delighted to be hosting this year’s Club Kildare fundraiser. Huge work has gone in behind the scenes from Club Kildare, to make Saturday a great day out for their supporters. It is great to see the sense of community and encouragement that people have for the Kildare Senior footballers as they launch their 2012 campaign.”

All funds raised on the day will go to assist the Kildare team in achieving their goals for Leinster and All Ireland success.
