Velvet Skies (9/2) registered a second career success at Dundalk today, landing the Floodlit Friday Nights At Dundalk Stadium Handicap for trainer Mick Mulvany, owner Frank McNulty and jockey Billy Lee.

The four-year-old gelding’s previous success was gained at Down Royal in September 2023 and having finished second on six occasions since then, today ended a 21-race losing spell.

Velvet Skies held a narrow lead over Rattletheonionbag in the closing stages and with a short-head separated the pair at the line, the stewards later enquired into the pair briefly brushing against each other, but left the result stand.

Mulvany later said “he was hitting the goalpost here and the last day he missed the break a bit. He came out well today. Hopefully, we have got the secret of him now and it will be onwards and upwards."

Regarding the fractional bump between the pair in the closing stages, he added "Billy (Lee) said he thought the second banged into him, Billy seemed to be straight."
