Net Boy again showed his liking for Ballinrobe when putting up a fine front-running performance to take the McHale Tiger Roll Beginners Chase.

Owned and trained by Barry Connell, the French-bred gelding won a maiden hurdle here 12 months ago and looks the type to do even better over fences judged on this victory.

Sean Flanagan sent the 12/1 chance to the front from flagfall and had his rivals stretched throughout, staying on well in the straight to beat Scalpnagoon by 11 lengths. Jolie Jewel was a further two and a half lengths back in third.

Flanagan said, “There was no point doing anything else (front-running) because he carted me at Leopardstown.

"He had a good look around in front, but he's an economical jumper and gets from a to b.

“It was a good performance because he only jumped two fences the last day, so it was effectively his first run over fences.

“We hadn't done a whole pile of schooling with him, because he's so hot and bothered.

“He's a massive, big horse and is relatively lightly raced. He might get another furlong or two at the moment, and if he learns to settle, then he'd stay a lot further.”
