The 2/9 favourite New York City was a very easy winner of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

Ryan Moore ’s mount was a little sluggish from stalls but was soon prominent and led two furlongs out. The Invincible Spirit colt, runner-up a couple of times last term, lengthened well up the hill to beat newcomers Gobi Star and Lady Kabeir by seven lengths and half a length.

"He's a beautiful, big, strong horse and he was entitled to win like that,” said the winning rider.

"It's a nice day to win his race and hopefully he can go on from here.

"It's good ground and he's quite a straightforward horse - I wouldn't say the ground is massively important. He was running on soft ground towards the end of the year and maybe that wasn't ideal for him."

The Aidan O’Brien-trained winner, rated 101, was getting off the mark at the sixth attempt.
